2014 Silverado unveiling scheduled

No photos yet, but GM has confirmed that they will be taking the wraps off the long-awaited light-duty trucks on December 13-14, when auto journalists will be in Detroit for an annual line review.

Exact dates for showroom deliveries may be announced at the same time, but are more likely to be part of the public intro at the North American International Auto Show in January in Detroit.

There is a pent up demand and a lot of curiosity about the the Chevy and GMC versions of these trucks. Both Ford and Ram have introduced new models of their 1/2-ton trucks, with greatly improved fuel efficiency, state-of-the-industry technology, and a range of performance and comfort features that have quickly moved the mark in the critical segment.

GM needs to leapfrog its competitors to gain a leadership spot in the industry, but Silverado and GMC owners are among the most loyal out there, and Silverado remains number two in the market well behind Ford and GMC is a distant fourth behind Ram (and the Tacoma threatens to overtake it if sales don’t improve). the big question is whether GM truck buyers have satisfied themselves with the current generation of the company’s trucks, have been conquests by other brands rather than waiting, or have patiently waited to be surprised and delighted by GM’s latest efforts.
