The child and the viper

Red wolf-like animals still in Texas?

As someone who dearly loves the Creation, one of the most inspiring passages in the Bible comes in Isaiah 11 when the author prophesies what will happen to the Creation when Christ returns to rule and reign on Earth.

Verses 6-9 are truly amazing but right now I want to concentrate on verses 8-9.

The infant will play near the cobra’s den, and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain.

That is the state of the Creation as it was in the Garden of Eden. Can you imagine being able to let a child put their hand it a viper’s nest or in the cobra’s den?

Two years ago I got to film with a venomoid (venom glands removed) snake donated to Pets-A-Plenty: The Ultimate Reptile Shop in Hockley, TX. It gave me a tiny glimpse of what Isaiah was talking about because I got to interact with it without the fear of death (although I did proceed with caution-it still had fangs). The best part was that has been my favorite snake since I was in 4th grade when a man did a reptile show at our school and had one of these beauties with him.

I love snakes but I love my child a whole lot more and there is no way my daughter would be allowed anywhere near a viper or cobra as things stand now.

If the Lord can bring that kind of security and peace upon His return what kind of peace can He make in your life right now? In mine?

It’s something to ponder and pray about.
