It has been relatively quiet on the recall front, but that appears to be changing with Ford’s recall of more than 390,000 vehicles for a door latch problem. The company said Friday that the problem may prevent doors from closing properly potentially causing them to open while the vehicle is in motion.

The recall covers 2012 – 2014 Ford Fiestas and 2013 -2014 model Ford Fusion vehicles, as well as 2013 – 2014 Lincoln MKZ cars.

Two people have suffered shoulder injuries related to the problem, and there has been a report of one accident in which an improperly latched door opened in a parking lot while the car was in motion causing the door to hit another car.

To verify that your car is one that is affected, go to the recall section of ford.com, or contact your dealer. If you know of someone who has one of these vehicles, please share the information with them. Since these are relatively new models it is likely that they are still owned by the original owners which means that they will receive a notification from Ford.

If you are looking at any of these vehicles used, be aware that dealers are not legally required to deal with recalls issues. Make certain that you follow up before purchasing anything.
