I received a disturbing “Amber Alert” text  about a newborn being kidnapped earlier this month.

Later I found the story that coincided with it.  Turns out a new mother was shot and killed while loading her newborn into the truck right outside of the hospital.  So terribly tragic.

This got me thinking again about “Crime Spree Zones” AKA “Gun Free Zones”.  A hospital is one of them.  What if that was my wife loading up our new baby?  I would have been disarmed exiting from the hospital with our newborn pursuant to Texas Law, this could have made me a walking victim as well.  Only criminals will be armed in these “Gun Free” places.  Now I’m not saying if the good guys carry guns crime ceases, for instance even cops are not invincible.  But disarming law abiding citizens only invites crime, it will never prevent it.

Criminals commit crime by definition.  A criminal bent on murder and kidnapping could care less if there is a sign that says “No Guns”.  Murder is already against the law, yet some politicians believe that banning inanimate objects is going to magically eradicate crime?
