I shot this mangy beast on the shore of Lake Sam Rayburn a few years back when my dogs bayed it up under a vehicle at midnight. I believe it was just an ugly/mangy/rabid coyote. Some say it sure has a short tail to be a yote and might be a little more mysterious. Either way, this sucker is interesting.

Aside from a horrendous case of mange (or some other skin ailment) and a lopped tail, it looks like a coyote to me.
What did you use to get that guy? Was it a 223 or something else?
Hey Aaron, yeah it was a .223 at semi close range – did some damage!
Figured it was a .223, not sure why but just a gut feeling. Seen any more of those or just the one time?
I see real coyotes every once and a while, but not this crazy looking.
I’ve heard some with a mean howl but have yet to see any at the new house.
