For July 4th at our summer kids camp, I decided to start our independence celebration with a “Top Shot” style bang.
We setup 2 pounds of ”In the Red” high velocity explosives to detonate using my suppressed LaRue OBR in 7.62mm with the kiddos right before the fireworks started. We wanted to do this on the property in the same location of the fireworks, but I wanted to be extra safe and ensure the bullet wouldn’t travel any farther.
I ended up setting the exploding target about 6′ in front of 3 50lb sandbags. The results were perfect.
The exploding target detonated first shot, dead center hit, and as I inspected the sandbags the middle bag had about a 4″ blowout in the front and no exit. Further examination proved the bullet stopped about halfway through. A perfectly safe temporary backstop.
