1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction
Unfortunately, almost everyone has a story of a close call with a firearm safety issue that could have ended in tragedy if “Rule #1” hadn’t been followed. When I was shooting with a friend a while back, his 45 ACP pistol jammed. I watched as he kept his finger off of the trigger, and pointed it in a safe direction, and as he reached his left hand up to work the slide – “BAM!” It went off and fell into pieces.

Notice the bullet’s jacket still at the end of the muzzle and the frame broken into pieces.
The spontaneous discharge could have been due to the “bad” batch of ammo from the fire in his house recently so maybe that was the second safety lesson learned. I was very thankful he was handling the pistol safely when this Hi-Point discharged and bit the dust. Be safe out there.
1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction
2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
3. ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
