Last Friday headlines lit up about a supposed mass shooting in front of the Empire State building with at least 10 dead and wounded. Soon after we found out the truth, one dead, and 9 wounded. And then even less reported was the truth: how the 9 innocents were wounded.
One psychopath murdered his coworker in cold blood by shooting him in the back of the head, then supposedly turned his gun on the police when they came running. Two of NYPD’s “finest” returned fire with 16 rounds to stop the psycho, and in their actions wounded 9 innocents by misses and bullet fragmentation in the crowded scenes.
It could have been worse, but it could have been much better.
NYC is a “No Guns” culture. As required by law, the victim in this case was unarmed, as where all other law abiding citizens in that city. Once again, the criminal was the only one besides the police with a gun. Mayor Bloomberg in his lack of wisdom and logic blames guns for crime instead of people’s choices and therefore bans them. Interesting. How did that work out for you mayor?
In this “No Gun” culture that Bloomberg and his goons have bred only results in a society where thugs rule because they continue to use force and firepower, and the innocent civilians are defenseless. As always your best defense is a good guy with a gun, but is now limited to a cop, who at the very least is several minutes away. He has had minimal training and been armed with a less than optimal Glock 22 “customized” with an incredibly heavy 12 pound trigger. The reasoning behind this trigger to to stop accidental shootings by NYPD. I’m sorry, but a heavy trigger does not give you better discretion, nor does it make such an untrained shooter any more accurate.
I read a post earlier about how NYPD has to keep dumbing down their requirements for cops to pass the pistol qualifications, how their tactical training is a joke, and most of all the police academy is the very first time for most officers to ever shoot a firearm.
In Texas, this usually isn’t the case. We are a gun culture. While training is required for law enforcement, most folks grow up with family firearms training of their own. You can look at my “Top Shot” experience. I went into it with my only formal training being a weekend class a few years ago, and I beat all the other top trained experts. Now of course I did have the ultimate advantage, God’s favor, so I can’t take too much credit.
My point is this. All the anti-gunners wish to have a culture where there are either no guns at all, or at the very least only the police and military has guns. In that fairyland, no one can shoot well either. You will have major collateral damage when minimally trained officials pry their rusty handguns from their holsters.
The best solution is for responsible citizens to “cling to their guns” and heritage. Then our future officers will have more experience and training, and the bad guys might think twice before making terrible choices.

Interesting how the liberal media looks to ignore the fact that firearms empower the law abiding citizens of this country. Thanks for sharing.
Crime means more money for cities from the federal government so of course they won’t breed a society that is friendly toward citizens, instead we will make it easier for the criminal to justify the spending it takes to militarize the police force. just a thought.
Its sad that the NYPD can’t get enough recruits to fill the force these days but it’s worse that someone who is sworn to protect the city doesnt take it upon themselves to become proficient in the use of their own service weapons…
What I find really ironic is that Bloomberg stated in a TV interview following the Aurora shootings, that he did not understand why all police officers across the country didn’t go on strike until stricter gun control laws were passed. He said armed citizens make the police’s job of protecting us more of a hazard to the officers. Now it is two of his officers who wounded 9 of his citizens, with guns. You might want to wipe the egg off your face, Mayor. I am not bashing the police by making this comment. I fully support our LEO’s, but it is not their job to protect individual citizens. They are here to catch criminals after the crime is comitted. And even if our protection was their first priority, if is utterly impossible for them to fulfill that mission.
One last thing. People always talk about how legally armed citizens don’t get the proper training to handle self defense situations, like police officers do. I would argue that there are many, many permit holders who have a better level of training than the average beat cop. That is my opinion, of course.
Will gun control reduce gun violence? Sure – just like revoking a drunk driver’s license will keep them off the road. To prevent drunk drivers from killing, perhaps no one should be able to drive a car…

Mr. Ellermann, this article is by no means wrong, but as a NYC resident I would like to correct you on what the NYPD carries—
1. Glock 19 with 12lb trigger
2. Smith & Wesson 5942 Double Action Only with 12lb trigger
3. Sig P226 Double Action Only with 12lb trigger.
Again as a NYC resident I cannot wait to move out of the city so I can exercise my 2nd Amendment rights. Outside of the city in areas such as Dutchess and Orange counties the firearms laws are considerably more relaxed. My cousins carry a G19 and a Bersa .380 respectively. My true dream is New Hampshire though!
Thanks Pete! Never been to NY and don’t plan to anytime soon ;) And yes, I encourage you to move to a free city until we can cleanse communist socialist tyrannical leaders like Bloombug from the USA ;)
