Episode 9 – Stacked

Moving target, 50 BMG, 500 Yards, 50 MPH Wind!

The California weather threw us a more difficult challenge today than any of the Top Shot crew could have ever created – a 40 MPH wind with 50-60 MPH gusts.  And of course it had to be this brutal when at our first individual challenge where we had a long range shot at a moving target at 500 yards.  The McMillan Tac 50 is definitely up to the task, but normally I would have ballistic information for my rifle and loads, or at least my iPhone aps!  Today we would have to judge it for ourselves.  The results are below:

I seemed to do very well.  After being sequestered while the other marksman shot for about 2 hours, I went up and did my thing.  As I was walking up I remember praying, “God, you brought me this far and I really appreciate it.  If you are finished with me here, I am content, but if you want me to go further – I’m gonna need a little help.”  In 8 seconds He proved Himself faithful and I won the competition.

My 500 yard shot, 8 seconds after Colby said “GO!”

All of us below 15 seconds on the scoreboard needed only one shot.  Chris and Mike used 3.  Gary had a bad day and needed 14.  I was somewhat envious of Gary, getting to shot the 50 caliber that much, but he didn’t appreciate my jealousy.  He and Mike went head to head in a challenge using the WWII Walther P38 in 9mm firing at 36 plexiglass targets supporting hanging boards.  Mike fell behind and Gary eliminated him in this challenge.   We are now down to 6 marksman as we enter episode 10, where there was a teaser this episode that showed Jake sitting outside the house and Colby coming to visit, stay tuned!

  1. Dustin,
I’m normally not a “TV” guy but I do like Top Shot. When I learned of your story before the series started I had to watch. Been praying for our Christian Texan. Continue to do well. Thanks so much for your testimonies and your Christian attitude.

    God bless, Godspeed!

    Dave
