Gov. Rick Perry spoke May 1 at Shield Tactical, which sells firearm related gear and training services, welcoming the company to Texas after it relocated from gun-unfriendly California.
“It’s my pleasure to officially welcome Shield Tactical to the Lone Star State. When we first started airing our radio ad in California, letting company owners and CEOs know about a better way of doing business here in Texas, attracting owners like John was a big part of it,” Gov. Perry said. “Economic development is at the very core of Texas’ mission, and we’ve done an effective job over the past decade, making some tough decisions and a rededicating to the fiscally conservative principles that encourage job creation.”
In addition to reaching out to employers in states like California that have put policies in place that make it harder to do business, Gov. Perry has also reached out directly to more than 30 firearms manufacturers across the country in states that are considering restricting sales or manufacturing of the industry.

The governor highlighted the economic climate that gives every business in Texas, small or large, the best chance for growth and success, including our low taxes, predictable regulations, fair courts and skilled workforce. The strongest indicator of the success of these economic policies are Texas employers, who have added more than half a million private-sector jobs over the last two years alone and a total of nearly 1.4 million in the private sector over the last 10 years.
