An alligator bit off and ate the arm of a Florida teenager on Monday July 9.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Jorge Pino said the teen’s arm was still inside the 11-foot alligator when it was hunted down and killed Monday evening in the Caloosahatchee River.
Kaleb Langdale , 17, was rushed to a Fort Myers hospital, but his arm couldn’t be reattached.
Witnesses said the animal swam straight at Langdale, bit down on his arm and pulled him under.
Another witness, one of Langdale’s friends suggested the teen offered his arm to the gator to save his life: “He’s been around alligators all his life. He’s smart enough. He knows if he offers him his arm, he won’t take his torso. He was smart, he took the risk.”
Witness Gary Beck said Langdale surfaced and screamed, “My arm is gone!”
