A 16-year-old girl was killed Friday after being struck by a motor boat near Aransas Pass.
Witnesses said the teen, believed to be from San Antonio, was flung from the boat and struck in the head by its propeller. Her name has not been released by authorities.
The boat rushed into the Hampton’s Landing marina pier off East Ransom Road about 10:45 a.m. as those on board shouted for people to call an ambulance.
“She had lost a lot of blood,” said Lac Mai who runs a bait shop at the landing. “We lifted her up into the ambulance and they tried CPR on her but it was too late.”
Mai said the teen had a deep gash running up her head from her neck.
The 16-year-old girl was rushed to a nearby hospital and later pronounced dead, Aransas Pass Police reported.
Fishing guide Charlie Ives was fishing nearby when he heard the commotion. At first he thought it was an argument between boaters, he said.
“I came in and there was blood everywhere,” Ives said.
Witnesses said the teen, who was riding with two other teenage girls and a man in his 40s, fell out of the boat, possibly during a sharp turn, and was thrown in front and under the boat.
