Texas Parks and Wildlife Department game wardens are investigating a Pflugerville, Texas, man for cooking and eating a whitewing dove that had flown against the side of his home, broke its neck, and died.
Ryan Adams thought it was a stroke of luck when he discovered the dove.
“This is the same bird that hunter’s pay just buckets of money to go out and shoot,” he said. “They take their time… and I just got one for free.”
Adams decided to do what he thought any aficionado of wild game would do in his shoes — cook the dove for dinner.
“It is illegal to possess any wildlife resource that has not been taken legally,” said TPWD spokesman Steve Lightfoot. “By legal I mean there are certain means and methods… you have to have a hunting license and you have to have the appropriate weapon and ammunition.”
Adams’ undoing was he posted the tale and photos of the heinous deed on his internet blog.
