Two Mississippi hunters have died in a boat collision on that state’s namesake river.
David Slater, 50, of Davenport and Thomas Trainer, 42, of Canton, Illinois, were identified by the Rock Island County Coroner.
Slater and Trainer died when their johnboat hit a buoy in the river. One man was thrown into the water and the other into the buoy.
They were among seven duck hunters in the boat. The five other hunters survived the crash. Four had serious injuries and were airlifted to Iowa City for treatment. One man was treated at a Quad Cities-area hospital.
