After a Clearlake, California, man shot a potential state record mule deer buck in October, the hunter decided to literally take a back seat to the prized animal on the trip home.
“It may go as a state record for a non-typical stag,” Telles said. The official score won’t come in until close to Christmas.
Telles and and his nephew, Anthony Thomasson, were faced with “trying to get it out of the snow and trying to figure out how we’d load it onto the truck.”
They ultimately buckled the 265-pound buck into the front seat of Thomasson’s Chevrolet 4-wheel-drive pickup.
“We got the seat belt on him and I climbed in the back seat,” Telles said.
The two drove a little ways before stopping to catch some shut-eye in the truck.
