Ana Gloria Garcia Gutierrez, the alleged arch criminal photographed in October riding a Florida manatee, was arrested on a misdemeanor warrant Saturday by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
When the incident occurred, ace crime-fighter Sheriff Bob Gualtieri launched a statewide womanhunt by holding a press conference and asking for the public’s help identifying the woman.
“Go ride a Jet Ski. Don’t use animals,” an impassioned Sheriff Bob pleaded. “She needs to be held accountable for her actions.”
Gutierrez, probably exhausted from being on the lam, called deputies and allegedly admitted touching the federally-protected sea cow.
Gutierrez allegedly said she was new to the area and didn’t know it was illegal to touch a manatee, even if the manatee likes it.
The manatee, who was not injured in the assault, had no comment.
If convicted, Gutierrez faces justice in the form of a $500 fine and six months in jail. The accused fiend is back on the streets on $1500 bail.
