Shooting enthusiasts have a new choice for target practice Saturday, Dec. 1 when Athena Gun Club opens the doors for it’s Grand Opening weekend event.
Houston’s largest gun range, and the country’s most expansive facility, will be fully open to the public from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. all weekend for shooting and shopping. Athena will also be hosting representatives from the top gun vendors, such as Sig Sauer, Smith and Wesson and Wilson Combat, who will, for the first time ever, be offering interactive trials of the newest firearms and accessories.
Athena Gun Club, located off I-10 near Beltway 8 in Houston’s Memorial area, is a public 26-lane indoor shooting facility that focuses on the customer experience and offers a variety of features including concealed handgun license certification, self-defense classes taught by seasoned professionals, exclusive VIP memberships, an interactive retail store and a firearm simulator open to the public.
“The business model is revolutionary – there is not a model that exists in the firearms industry today that mirrors ours,” said John Boyert, Athena chief executive officer. “What truly sets us apart is what sets all of the finest organizations around the world apart from the status quo – our people and our leaders.
The facility concentrates on streamlining the shooting experience from check-in to checkout. A simplified shooting process includes easy registration, short wait lines and exceptional customer service from start to finish. The 26-lane, indoor shooting range includes Action Target® digital pulley systems and bullet traps as well as an advanced ventilation system by Carey Air. The retail area is an interactive shopping experience where customers can conveniently handle every item for sale with no retail counter boundaries. The store sells handguns, rifles, shotguns, optics and sights, knives, ammunition, self-defense products, firearm accessories and more. Athena also offers a lifetime warranty on all purchases. More than 150 rental firearms are also available to shoot at the range.
The simulator at Athena Gun Club is the first of its kind in Houston and has over 300 realistic scenarios with various outcomes to practice shooting in every way. The system uses tether-less guns with CO2 cartridges for lifelike recoil and can be used with real handguns, rifles, Tasers and sprays.
Beginning December, the club will be open seven days a week and offer hourly shooting rates, group reservations, along with corporate and personal event opportunities. The VIP membership, tailored to the avid gun owner and high-end visitor, offers everything from a private lounge to gun valet and private lane reservations.
“What you will find every time you walk through our doors, whether you are a first-time guest or VIP member, is that your safety, knowledge and enjoyment are our top priorities,” said Susan Cho-Boyert, Athena chief financial officer.
Co-owners, and husband and wife duo, John Boyert and Susan Cho-Boyert, are decorated military veterans.
