A would-be robber is in the hospital after a shooting at Liberty Convenience Store in Battle Creek. Eyewitness reports indicate that an attempted robbery went wrong, leading to the clerk shooting the would-be robber twice–including once in the head.
Witnesses say a white male with a number of tattoos attempted to rob the store at knife point, leading to the altercation. According to witnesses, the store worker told the robber to drop his weapon, and when the robber refused, the worker fired. Those witnesses believe the worker was justified in firing the shots.
“They’re nice people,” said witness Bernadette Jackson. “We’ve known them for 13 years, and this is not what they want to do.” The would-be robber was taken away by ambulance, bleeding from the head, the clerk was led off–though not in handcuffs–and may be speaking with police.
