As you probably know, the TF&G Report and fishgame.com in general were largely un-useable all of yesterday. We thought you deserve an explanation.
Between 9 and 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 12, we installed a WordPress software “update” in the TF&G Report and Dustin Ellermann’s blog. That update, version 3.5, was/is defective. Its myriad problems caused those two website sections to malfunction in a variety of ways and made the remainder of the site very sluggish and “glitchy.”
(If you or someone you know uses WordPress, do not install the version 3.5 update. Its developers released it way too soon, and have adopted an “it’s your website’s fault, there is nothing wrong with our code” attitude.)
Meanwhile, with the invaluable assistance of our host server provider, HostGator, we finally restored the two affected web sections and associated databases from backups and all appears to be working normally now.
An unfortunate side effect of the backup restore is the loss of any comments posted after 3 a.m. Wednesday.
We apologize for any inconvenience or frustration the outage might have caused.
Now that we can turn our attentions back to gathering news instead of fixing a broken website, we will be 100 percent on even keel by the end of today, Thursday, December 13. –Don Zaidle, Editor-in-Chief
