Corpus Christi police said fishing rods are among the most commonly stolen items in the city.
They are easy to spot in the beds of pickups or in open garages, said Capt. Jason Brady, of the Corpus Christi Police Department. They are lightweight and easy to carry away, and not as bizarre to carry down the street as say, a television.
And generally, anglers have multiple rods, so the high number makes sense because a dozen rods could be stolen in one robbery, Brady added.
“Because it’s an item people have in abundance, it’s an item people steal in abundance,” he said.
