Colorado wildlife department staffers are concerned about two cases of coyotes menacing people on the eastern portion of the Boulder Creek Path within a week.
That episode ended only after the woman used a stick to strike at the coyote repeatedly and the dog–a poodle–”intervened” to defend the woman.
The second case occurred when a coyote chased Derek Olson as he was commuting by bicycle from his home to work.
“I came around the corner there right next to the creek, and saw the coyote,” Olson said. The animal loped off, he said, “But then he turned on a dime and came up right behind me, and was about a foot off my pedal.”
Olson said he kicked at the animal and yelled, causing the coyote to relent, allowing Olson to rebuild speed.
“But then I looked back, and the thing was sprinting after me again,” he said,
