Texas high school students involved in competitive bass fishing will descend on beautiful Lake LBJ March 15-17, 2013.
“We’re excited to bring this exciting, wholesome competition to the Highlands Lakes,” said Bill Rives of event sponsor the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitor’s Bureau.
“And we are excited to partner with Texas Fish & Game (TF&G) magazine to help do some really special with this event.”
The first publication to feature Texas high school and collegiate anglers on its pages, TF&G is adding fishing royalty to the event.
“We’ve had a long standing working relationship with 2008 Bassmaster Classic winner Alton Jones who is not only one of the world’s best fishermen but a wonderful human being who likes to work with young people,” said TF&G Exec. Editor Chester Moore.
“The winning team will get the amazing opportunity to fish with Jones and be featured on a TF&G cover.”
Jones said he considers the opportunity to fish with and inspire young anglers as an honor.
“I am so grateful for my grandfather for teaching me to fish the right way and have a passion for it. It is my hope that I can help develop and that in young people,” Jones said.
“I am excited to fish with the event’s winners and salute everyone putting this together.”
Rives said Lake LBJ is a perfect setting for such an event and that he is excited to see so many young people excited about fishing.
“Fishing is a character building sport. It’s something you can do for a lifetime and we are happy to see the enthusiasm for it growing in Texas high schools.”
