An 8-year-old boy was taken to the hospital for a coral snake bite Tuesday afternoon, according to the Austin-Travis County EMS.
The incident happened at about 4:15 p.m. in the 5700 block of Puccoon Cove in Northwest Austin. The boy killed the snake before EMS arrived, said spokesman Warren Hassinger. Although the boy was bitten, Hassinger said he’s not sure if the snake released venom.
The victim has been taken to Dell Children’s Hospital in stable condition.
Coral snake bites are dangerous, but Hassinger said that EMS does not respond to many calls for service about them.
