Sgt. Mike Burgamy, spokesman for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, told CBS Atlanta the father of an 18-year-old took him to the Hall County Detention Center Saturday and issued a statement.
“The father of the suspect actually heard on the radio what happened. When he got home, saw his boat, saw the damage, talked to his son about it – son affirmed he did hit something. He didn’t know what he had hit,” said Burgamy.
The hit-and-run crash happened just before midnight Friday. Two people riding a Sea-Doo personal watercraft were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. One has since been released.
The 18-year-old who turned himself in was injured with cuts to his arm in the crash. He told police his boat was taking on water so he went to the boat ramp at Old Federal Park to take the boat out of the water.
“It being the same general location as the hit-and-run, the father took his son up to the Hall County Detention Center voluntarily to make a statement,” said Burgamy.
