Two fishermen were pulled from a pond in Carrollton on Saturday night in what appears to have been a rescue that went awry.
Witnesses said the two men had been fishing when, according to initial reports, one of them got in the water and was unable to swim to safety. The other tried to save him, but both men drowned.
The victims, both 30 years old, were rushed to hospitals in Carrollton and Lewisville where they were later pronounced dead.
They were identified by Carrollton police as Hector Rodriguez-Ovalle and Francisco Najar. Police said both were residents of Dallas and were related to one another.
