A North Texas woman survived several hours in the water at Lake Ray Hubbard over the July 4 weekend.
Blackwood was out boating with friends and went overboard without a life preserver.
Her friends left her behind. Blackwood said people were drinking and the music was too loud for them to hear her screams for help.
“As soon as I saw them far off, I was like wow, I’m on my own,” Blackwood said.
Blackwood said she tried not to panic and swam against the current. She also tried to backstroke toward the lights of nearby Interstate 30, but she was too far away.
