Catching 49 fish of any species would be considered a great day on the water.
That’s what the Downs family of Virginia Beach did Sunday. While fishing on the Waverunner III with Capt. Pat Foster, five family members caught and released 49 white marlin.
“It was awesome,” said Jayme Downs, a seasoned offshore angler who landed seven of the fish herself. “It was the best time I’ve ever had fishing.
Remarkable, but not a record. The unofficial trolling mark – no official marks are kept – is 57 white marlin releases set in August 2010 by Ocean City, Md.-based charter boat Billfisher.
