Western Australia might be the leader in shark research but scientists still don’t know why sharks attack humans.
In 2012 when the state government committed $2 million towards investigating shark behaviour in an effort to reduce shark attacks off its coast, WA claimed to be number one in the field.
Since then researchers have worked on and continue working on researching the effectiveness of things such as bubble curtains, strobe lights, underwater sound effects, shark shields, computer algorithms and sonar imaging to deter sharks.
The thing that is yet to be considered is what makes a shark attack.
