I apologize this is brief but it’s all I have been able to find on the topic. This is the from the Louisiana State Police’s website http://www.lsp.org/handguns.html. –Robert Gillock, Web News Editor
The 2010 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature has made changes to LRS 40:1379.3. Most significantly, as of August 15, 2011, Louisiana will no longer allow residents to present a permit issued by another state for carrying in this state. The Laws and Rules Handbook is currently being re-written to reflect these changes.
Act 944 of the Regular Session of the 2010 Legislature has created a permit that is valid for five years. Effective August 15, 2010, the Louisiana State Police Concealed Handgun Permit Section will no longer issue two and four year permits. Two and four year permit applications that are not postmarked by August 14, 2010 will not be processed and will be returned.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
