A 50-year-old man died Sunday afternoon in an ice fishing accident near rural Victoria in northeast Knox County, Illinois, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
A father and son were ice-fishing at Long Lake about three miles south of Victoria. The son left the location at the lake and returned to find a hole in the ice and the fishing equipment partially underwater.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Department responded about 1:20 p.m., with the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department and Coppas Creek dive teams assisting. Oak Run, Williamsfield and Appleton fire departments were also at the scene.
