Investigators on Monday had not found a monicled cobra on the loose in a house in Brownwood, but no other organized searches are planned.
Investigators also said the sunset monocled cobra may have been missing for longer than originally thought – possibly up to a week longer.
Last Wednesday, it was brought the attention of police that a cobra had been loose for about two or three days. However, that number may be as much as eight or nine days, according to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.
Lt. Game Warden Tracy Davis said he was told by the family that they conducted searches in the house prior to those conducted Friday by animal control officers, TPWD employees, and Abilene Zoo representatives.
Davis said no other organized searches were planned, that looking for it is like “looking for a toothpick in a haystack.”
