Former First Lady Laura Bush has launched the online home for Taking Care of Texas, her new initiative aimed at encouraging Texans to take care of the working lands and natural resources that make Texas a prosperous place to live.
The former First Lady and a board of private landowners, conservationists, scientists, and businesspeople have formed this new initiative to spur conservation efforts that benefit communities, build on the successful stewardship efforts of others, and inspire all Texans to join in.
“We are all affected by the land beyond our backdoors. Each of us has a stake in its future. Working together is vital to caring for our great land, and with the right information, we can care for the wildlife and wild places that make this state unique,” says Mrs. Bush.
Taking Care of Texas is partnering with like-minded organizations to identify projects making a positive difference in the Texas landscape, and will be featuring many of these efforts on their new site and at the first ever Taking Care of Texas Collaborative Conservation Conference in Fort Worth in March of 2013.
On Saturday, April 21st at 10:30am Mrs. Bush will speak at Earth Day Dallas. This and other opportunities to support conservation in Texas can be found on the group’s website, www.takingcareoftexas.org.
