A woman’s cargo shorts caught fire after a trip to a San Clemente, California, beach, and authorities are investigating the link between the fire and rocks that the woman was carrying in her pocket.
The Orange County fire department confirmed the incident to NBC4.
The stones were picked up during a family beach trip – some were speckled green, others orange. As the 43-year-old woman walked, friction built up apparently causing a combustion. Flames came off of the woman’s pants and she suffered second- and third-degree burns to her leg. The Orange County Health Care Agency is testing the rocks, said Capt. Marc Stone of the Orange County Fire Authority.
