An Estes Park woman is in serious condition at the hospital after she was trampled by an elk outside of her apartment complex.
Investigators say there’s no indication that the 60 year-old woman did anything to provoke the elk.
The elk was, however, with her calf.
Estes Park’s police chief says this is the time of year when female elk get aggressive.
The elk trampling happened at the Trailridge Apartments shortly after 3 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.
60 year-old Robin Pattishall lives in the apartment building just west of the Estes Park Golf Course.
When 9NEWS showed up to the apartment complex on Tuesday evening, a half dozen elk were still roaming around the area.
Pattishall was immediately taken to Estes Park Medical Center, and then she was flown to the Medical Center for the Rockies in Loveland where she’s listed in serious condition.
