Spring Flounder Secret

Well, they are starting to trickle into the bays and due to increasing numbers we had more than unusual in the bays this year. There is an important key for flounder most of the year and that is targeting menhaden (shad) as they are their primary forage.

However, in the spring the shad are tiny so you need to focus your efforts on large concentrations of shad. If you pass by a shoreline or cut near a bayou and see so many small shad it looks as if there is rain on the water’s surface fish there. These spots will hold lots of flounder.

Start off fishing something like a Mr. Twister Sassy Shad (2 inch) on an 1/8-oz jighead and tipped with shrimp. If the flounder are there it will not take long to connect.
