Whenever I tell you about GM’s growth, whether it be in new models or significantly updated models, I am sure to get a flurry of emails regarding the bailout and GM, in general. There is a lot of venom, but I’ll risk it by telling you that the vehicle manufacturer has announced nine vehicle for GMC and Buick in the next 12 months, in addition to the Chevy Silverado announced for 2014 and the Chevy Colorado for 2015 model years.
GMC Acadia exteriorAlthough some are not trucks, I am giving you the full view of what’s on tap. This fall, the 2013 GMC Acadia Crossover SUV (which I will be driving later this week) and the Buick Enclave are being sprung. They are both successful already but will be getting some upgrades and new features. In 2013, the new Buick Encore small luxury crossover (base priced at $24,950 delivered), a Buick Regal and Buick LaCrosse sedans are on tap.
Acadia center seat airbagThe Denali version of the 2013 Acadia was previewed at the Chicago Auto Show earlier this year and I was lucky enough to get a birds-eye view which included its exclusive center front seat airbag and an updated interior.
Acadia Denali interiorMore of interest to you, I suspect are the full-sized GMC Sierra and Sierra HD full-sized pickups and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL full-size SUVs arriving next year. GMC also announced the return of the GMC Canyon mid-size pickup truck — all new models to be built in Wentzville, MO with actual arrival timing to be announced later.
Tony DiSalle, VP of GMC and Buick marketing (the two brands were combined sometime ago) says, “…a new, agile and efficient mid-size Canyon will meet the needs of many pickup buyers…may not need a full-size pickup.” I expect to hear similar comment from the Chevy marketing folks when they preview a new Colorado, and will be looking for some good mpg numbers for these smaller truck additions to their lines.
