Quadski Amphibious ATV offers 45mph on land and water

The GIBBS Quadski, touted by its maker as the “world’s first high speed amphibian” will go on sale in the U.S. in November with the extra oomph of being built in Michigan by some real job creators.  The frosting on the cake:  Texas is one of the states that will have dealerships within the next 12 months of rollout.  (The other early market areas include the Midwest, New York and the southeast.)

Introduced at a press conference in Detroit, the Quadski — priced at about $40,000 — is equipped with a 175-hp BMW Motorrad engine and transmission.  A simple press of a button retracts the wheels when entering the water and deploying them when approaching land.  This engine is considered the lightest power plant in its segment and features electronic fuel injection, a double-overhead camshaft and dry-sump lubrication.

Weighing in at 1,300-lbs., the Quadski is equipped with a 15-gallon fuel tank.  It is 10.5-feet in length; 5.2-feet in width and 4.3-feet in height with a 5.8-foot wheelbase.  Initially, it will be a one-person vehicle and will be available in red, yellow, blue, and black.

GIBBS Quadski has more than 300 patents and patents pending on its high speed amphibious technology for consumer, commercial and first-responder use, so I expect that there will be more vehicles in the line after this first offering is marketed to first adopters with the money to bring it home.  For more information, and a video on the Quadski which is too large to post on this site, go to the company’s site at: www.gibbsports.com
