Recalls this week: Chevy Cruze; Hyundai Sonata, Azera and Santa Fe Sport

I hate recall stories!  I suspect they bore you, too, unless you (or someone you know) owns one of the vehicles in question; in which case, they are exceptionally important.  So: here they are:

  • 239,000 Chevrolet Cruze cars (2011, 2012) with 1.4L turbocharged gasoline engines and 6T-40 automatic transmissions.  The company said that in this most recent recall (there have been eight recalls since the introduction of the Cruze in 2010) the power brake boosters can fail and — in rare cases — drivers may have to apply exceptional pressure to stop the vehicle.  Contact the dealer to replace a switch in the power brake vacuum pipe assembly at no cost, or contact Chevrolet directly.
  • 239,000 Hyundai Azera (2006-2011) and Sonata (2006 – 2010) vehicles sold in, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and District of Columbia. None sold in Texas.  The control arm can separate causing a sudden change in rear wheel alignment. The cause is generally road salt and water entering portions of the rear crossmember leading to corrosion of the cross member steel.   Hyundai will notify original owners, or you can contact Hyundai at 1-734-337-9499.  Mention recall number 113.
  • 20,3000 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport (2013) equipped with 2.4L engines.  Due to a manufacturing issue the right front axle shaft may fracture resulting in a loss of power to the wheels.  A problem can also occur if the vehicle is parked without applying the parking brake, causing the vehicle to roll.
