Toyota Tacoma recall affects 342,000 vehicles

America’s best selling midsize truck has been hit with a multi-year recall.  Announced yesterday, the voluntary safety recall involves about 342,000 Tacoma’s built between 2004 and 2011.

Again, seat belt hardware is the culprit.  Screws that attach the seat belt pre-tensioner to the seat belt retractor inside the seat belt assembly for both driver and front passenger can become loose over time due to repeated and forcefully closing the access door, according to Toyota.  If the screws loosen completely (which you cannot see) the pre-tensioner and the retractor spring cover could detach affecting performance and safety.

Important to remember is that the owners of vehicles who will be notified by mail only include those in Toyota’s records, generally meaning original owners only.  If you, or someone you know, own  a 2004 to 2011 Tacoma, check on www.toyota.com/recall, or the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 800-331-4331.  You will be asked the vehicle identification number from the Tacoma in question, since not all vehicles produced during that time period are affected.
