Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced the first stocking of rainbow trout below the dam at Possum Kingdom Lake tailrace was set for yesterday, Thursday, Dec. 5.
Because of the low-water conditions at the Highway 16 bridge resulting in the boat ramp being mostly out of water, the release was further upstream, officials reported.
Additional stockings will be Thursday, Dec. 19; Friday, Jan. 3; Thursday, Jan. 23; Thursday, Feb. 13; and Thursday, Feb. 27. Plans call for 9,000 rainbows to be released at PK.
Anyone 17 years or older needs a fishing license. Trout anglers will need the $5 Freshwater Fishing Stamp, which is included in all freshwater license packages. Anglers under 17 years of age are not required to have a license and don’t need to purchase a stamp.
The bag limit for trout is five fish per day with no minimum length limit.
