Wisconsin DNR Investigating Eight Hunting Accidents

The Wisconsin DNR is investigating eight hunting accidents during the gun-deer season.

Warden John King oversees the agency’s safety program, and he says that’s about average, for the nine-day hunt. He says hunters broke at least one of the four basic safety rules, in each incident.

King says as of now, there haven’t been any fatalities. He says a hunter is in critical condition, after he was shot over the weekend, and hopefully he will pull through.

There have been three other times, on record, when there weren’t any hunting deaths. King says they were in 1973, 2010, and 2011. There was one fatality last year.

The DNR is investigating the eight gun accidents, and four were self-inflicted wounds. King says three shootings happened during deer drives. In the other incident, a bullet went through the wall of a house, and hit a man in the leg. King says they’re not sure if it was just a stray bullet, or a group was doing a deer drive.
