New Jersey CPS Threatens to Confiscate Student from Dad Because He was Twirling a Pencil “Like a Gun”

Seventh grade student Ethan Chaplin thought his troubles were over. His school cleared his name after one of his peers reported to a Glen Meadow Middle School teacher he had been twirling a pencil “like a gun.”

“He’s making gun motions, send him to juvie!” Ethan’s troublemaking colleague exclaimed, and Ethan was quickly ushered to the principal’s office where it was decided he should be suspended, and that, to be safe, he should probably have his head examined.

“We never know what’s percolating in the minds of children,” Vernon Schools Superintendent Charles Maranzano said in an interview, defending the principal’s actions. “And when they demonstrate behaviors that raise red flags, we must do our duty.”

Ethan’s father, however, being of sound mind and having a firm grasp on reality, refused to acquiesce to the principal’s wishes. Others agreed after Ethan’s story received extensive media coverage.

Following the controversy, Ethan’s dad, Michael, received a letter from the school’s superintendent saying no disciplinary action would be taken against his son, but that didn’t stop the New Jersey Department of Children and Families from issuing him a letter stating Ethan “was harmed or was placed at risk of harm.”

“I received a letter from them saying that they had found an incident of abuse or neglect regarding Ethan because I refused to take him for psychological evaluation,” Michael told Pix11.com.

Wanting to get the issue behind them, Michael took Ethan to see a social worker, where he had his blood drawn, and had to submit a urine sample.

The evaluation found Ethan to have no behavioral issues, however the state has persisted in harassing his father, and is now demanding he take him in for an additional screening, or “they will terminate his parental rights and free Ethan up for adoption,” according to Pix11.
