Man Dressed as Stormtrooper Prompts Lockdown After Bystander Thinks His Prop Blaster is an “AK-47″

OK, this one is weird, and dumb, and speaks to how much some members of the general public fear firearms.

A man who dresses as a stormtrooper from Star Wars and makes funny videos for his VINE account caused quite the uproar in Salina, KS when a bystander thought he was carrying an AK-47. Yep, because that Star Wars blaster prop looks just like an AK-47.

According to local media KSAL,

[Christopher Burns (aka Stormtrooper Sam)] tells KSAL News that he was a little surprised at the reaction, “Star Wars is such an iconic image, I was a little bit surprised that someone would see a Stormtrooper and fear when you know it’s been around since the 70′s,” he said.

Multiple police officers responded to the 100 Block of South 7th Street at around 1:00 in the afternoon Monday to the report of a possibly armed man.

A business owner was working with a veteran, when they noticed outside their window a man carrying a gun. The veteran thought that the gun might be an AK-47 rifle, and the business owner called police.

Of course, police didn’t actually have any work to do once they got there because a futuristic prop gun is not an AK-47.

Just to be clear, this:

Was mistaken for this:

If anything, I would think the Stormtrooper blaster would be mistaken for this (seeing as how this is the gun it’s based on):

OK, if you want to follow Stormtrooper Sam you can do so on VINE.

OK, OK, the obvious joke – Even if he was actually armed he wouldn’t have been able to hit anything!
