Police: Man Attacked By Crocodile During Early Morning Swim

CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – Coral Gables police said a man was attacked by a crocodile while swimming into a canal.

The incident happened at 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Police said the man was visiting friends in the 1300 block of Lugo Avenue and got into the brackish water of the canal.

The man was bitten by the crocodile and struggled to free himself, police said.

He suffered multiple lacerations to his arm, shoulder and back.

The man was taken to South Miami Hospital.

According to Coral Gables officials, the crocodile has not been captured. It is believed to be 8 to 9 feet long.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has been asked to investigate.
