WEATHERFORD, Texas; (August 25, 2014) — Jeff Thomason of Weatherford, Texas is smiling ear to ear as he crushed the current record holder for arrowing a mako shark off the coast of California last week. Thomason reeled in an 800 – plus pound shark and the entire event was filmed for his TV show, Predator Pursuit.

“I couldn’t believe it when we were reeling this behemoth to the boat – he’s nearly 300 pounds larger than the previous record holder,” said Thomason.

The shark was 11 feet long and weighed in at 809.5 pounds. Thomason shot it with a bow and arrow attached to fishing gear. He was approximately 40 miles off the coast of California fishing with Captain “Mako” Matt, who also helped reel in the previous record holder’s shark. The meat was all donated to a local homeless shelter, according to Thomason.  The previous record holder reeled in a 544-pound shark in mid-June.

The Bowfishing Association of America has verified the record.

A full article with behind-the-scenes photos from the event will be in Petersen’s BOWHUNTING January/February issue. Plus, Thomason is creating a full episode for his Predator Pursuit TV show.
