Need a few bucks? If you’ve got a rifle, a good aim, and some nuisance feral hogs on your Bastrop County property, you’re in luck.

The Bastrop County Feral Hog Bounty program will be held from Oct. 1, 2014, to Jan. 31, 2015. The amount paid will be $5 per hog tail.

The county says hogs must be harvested in Bastrop County. Participants must give land location where hogs were harvested when turning in tails at check stations.

Feral hogs can be taken by any lawful method, but it is illegal to buy a feral hog from another person to participate in the bounty.

Participants can also submit a valid receipt from a certified feral hog buyer which lists how many hogs were caught and sold from their Bastrop County property. Tails will be taken at the following check stations from Oct. 1 – Jan. 31 :

  • Discount Feed, 1401 Chestnut Street, Bastrop
  • Smith Supply, 764 West Loop 230, Smithville
  • Elgin General Store, 1155 Dildy Drive, Elgin
  • Paige Tractor, 4409 Hwy. 290 East, Paige

The final date to turn in hog tails will be Jan. 31 at the check stations during their normal business hours. No entries will be accepted after this date.

Tails must be submitted in Ziploc bags, no more than 10 tails per bag. All hog tails or copies of valid sales receipts from an approved holding facility from hogs caught in Bastrop County must be left at the check station. For each hog tail a contestant turns in at the check station, the contestant will receive a raffle ticket.

At the conclusion of the bounty, all raffle ticket stubs will be combined, and a drawing will occur at the Bastrop/Caldwell County Wildlife Management Association Extravaganza on April 18.

Cash prizes will also be given to the top participants turning in the most hog tails. Bounty results will be announced at the event.
