Divers who host a YouTube channel with footage that they share from their underwater adventures recently posted video of a marine rescue.
Thomas Monteiro with Ocean VideoSub from Brazil was diving near the Bat Islands in Costa Rica with Flavia Passaglia when a “peaceful” manta ray approached them — or maybe they approached the ray and it allowed them to get close. The ray, which dwarfed the men in size, was caught in a mass of fishing line.
“Brian Thompson (from Canada) gently cut the net fishing and now the manta can live with no pain,” the video description read.

The divers were sure to recover the line and take it back with them to the surface so no other marine life could get caught.
“Brian, the diver who cut the line, gave a little piece for all divers there!” the description read, calling the line a trophy.
Manta rays average about 22 feet wide, with the largest getting up to nearly 30 feet and weighing up to 3,000 pounds. According to the Florida Museum of Natural History, these rays pose little danger to humans.
