Watch a Mantis Shrimp Obliterate a Crab in Super-Slow Motion

A new video posted online Monday shows a mantis shrimp strike a crab in super-slow motion, revealing the incredible power of the sea creature’s little clubber.

Produced by popular YouTube channel “Smarter Every Day,” the video also explains the science behind the mantis shrimp’s raw striking power. According to the host, much of the clubbing power can be attributed to built up kinetic energy that is suddenly released at the moment of the strike.

At the time of publication, the video had amassed more than 70,000 views on YouTube and enthralled many viewers.

“Whoa…that is one crazy, awesome animal,” one individual commented.

“Wow, that’s amazing,” echoed another.
