LEHIGH ACRES, FL –
A member of the FWC freed a stuck alligator late Tuesday after it migrated from a canal into a storm drain. The gator then got stuck inside the drain, unable to move back out.
It created quiet a neighborhood attraction on Scenic Drive in the Country Club Estates area of Lehigh Acres. People dropped by all day to check out the storm drain and hissing gator.
Children spotted the caged creature on Monday when they went to retrieve a ball.
Landscapers, electrical workers and neighbors have stopped by to get a peak.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission or FWC has a alligator nuisance hotline. They were unable to find a trapper so an officer was sent in to grab the scaly beast.
The gator was irritated at the attention and hissed frequently. Tall tales are surely to be told this close to Halloween, the gator and the drain.
If a trapper had responded, the gator would have been “harvested” instead, the excitement lives on and the wandering gator will be released in a lake nearby. That way, the legend and the gator live on.
