Urgent: large recalls hit Ram, Jeep, Dodge and Ford

The bogey man is back for Halloween with new recalls; and, for a change, these are not linked to either faulty ignitions or airbags. Together they affect more than 750,000 Chrysler trucks and SUVs and Ford SUVs, so take note.

The Chrysler recalls involve 2010 – 2014 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups and Ram 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs with the 6.7-L Cummins diesel only. Corrosion on a fuel heater terminal could cause overheating, fuel leaks and fires, although none have been reported to date. Owners could be warned of a problem by the odor of diesel fuel. If you are a first owner, you will be notified by mail beginning in December and dealers will install upgraded and/or fuel heater housings.

In addition, 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos are being recalled for a problem with the debris cover on a circuit board in the steering column control module. Dealers reported problems when customers said that elecronic stability control warning lights were coming on…without warning. Again, no accidents reported, and Chrysler will be in touch.

Ford’s recall is for 205,000 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles from the 2007 and 2008 model years. Only cold weather states and parts of Canada are affected by a gas tank problem that can rust, leak and cause a fire.

The problem has been linked to ru7st under some mounting brackets in areas where salt is used to clear roads in the winter. Texas is not one of the states affected, but the recalls are in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Main, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and D.C. In Canada, affected areas include New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

Let your family and friends know.
